Born on May 16, 1934, Jim grew up on a family farm near Herman, Minnesota, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for agriculture and hard work. He later became a prominent figure in the crop insurance industry, playing an important role in shaping the field through his leadership and innovation.

Jim was appointed Manager of Federal Crop Insurance by President Jimmy Carter and was recognized as one of the chief architects involved in the FCIC Act of 1980. After returning to Minnesota from Washington, D.C., he founded two major crop insurance companies, RCIS and NAU, helping establish organizations that became significant within the industry.

Funeral and Memorial Arrangements

Funeral arrangements have been announced. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home in Anoka, Minnesota. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Anoka, with visitation beginning one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Achieve Services Inc. according to information provided in his obituary arrangements.
