HARRINGTON, Del. — The Harrington community is mourning the tragic death of Richard Jobes, 62, who was reportedly killed in an apparent murder-suicide involving his 36-year-old son, Richard Jobes II, early Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026.
According to the Delaware State Police, troopers responded at approximately 3 a.m. to the 200 block of Whiteleysburg Road near the Maryland state line following a report of two unresponsive individuals found in a ditch.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators later identified the older man as Richard Jobes, who was determined to have died from a fatal gunshot wound. His son, Richard Jobes II, was found with what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Both men were pronounced dead as a result of their injuries.
